In order to purchase an eSIM that will work in Mexico, you will first need to determine whether a Single Country eSIM or a Regional eSIM is preferable for your trip requirements. If you are looking for an eSIM for coverage in Mexico only, then a Single Country eSIM would be the best option. If you require coverage in Canada and the USA in addition to Mexico, then a Regional North America eSIM would be preferable. Next simply click on our ‘North America’ Regional Plan tab, or type ‘Mexico’ in the search bar. Next, simply choose your preferred amount of Data (and Voice Minute plan if required), and follow the on screen instructions in order to complete your purchase.
Your plan’s pricing will be determined based on the projected amount of data necessary for your trip requirements. For example, a 1 GB plan will run much cheaper than a 10 GB plan. Also a Regional ‘North America’ eSIM plan will cost more than a Single Country ‘Mexico’ plan, as the Regional plan offers coverage in both the US and Canada in addition to Mexico.
We only recommend activating your eSIM upon arrival to your destination. You can always choose to install your eSIM before your trip begins, but activating it should only be done upon arrival. Once you have arrived please make sure to deactivate your primary SIM line in order to avoid any unwanted roaming charges from your primary carrier, and activate your eSIM line while making sure your ‘Data Roaming’ for your eSIM line is set to ‘on’.
A big factor eSIMs are preferred over physical SIM cards is exactly because the installation and activation processes are instantaneous. Simply scan your eSIM’s QR code using your device camera via ‘device settings’. The purchase process is also an instantaneous one. Simply fill out the required information, hit purchase, and you will be instantly sent an email containing your eSIM’s QR code as well as installation instructions.
We always recommend installation prior to departing for your destination, while we only recommend activating your eSIM upon arrival to your destination. You can always choose to install your eSIM before your trip begins, but activating it should only be done upon arrival. This will help ensure you avoid any unwanted roaming charges incurred by your primary carrier.
